Levitation Photography by Natsumi Hayashi
Natsumi Hayashi is a photographer who takes self portraits, however, these are not your average selfies. Hayashi takes photos of herself levitating. Natsumi started a photo series “Today’s Levitation” in 2011. She has to jump more than 200 times to take one levitation picture. She tries to free herself from gravity through this series. Natsumi has expressed that she uses gravity as a metaphor for the stress we experience in life. Just like gravity, we can never truly escape our stress. Although, In her photos, she can be free from from gravity and feel as though she is not tied to anything. Her works have become popular in not only Japan but also overseas.
