SoftBank announced the World’s First Personal Robot “Pepper” that reads Emotions
I wrote an article about how much the Japanese people love Robots a while ago. However, on June 5th the company “SoftBank” announced the world’s first robot that can read human emotions “Pepper”. Pepper can read the emotional information from a persons facial expression and voice. Pepper can also can measure distances with an infrared sensor, and perceive the origination of the sound using the four microphones in its head. This robot is connected to a Cloud AI; it can learn and grow by reading various situations which traditional robots couldn’t do with limited CPU and memories. The French company “Aldebaran Robotics” developed Pepper. An application store and SDK software package for developers is going to be prepared for Pepper. The price of Pepper is 198,000 yen (about $2000). Pepper will be released in February 2015!
